Managing Associate Lawyer

I am a managing associate lawyer at Russell Alexander Collaborative Family Lawyers. I believe expertise and compassion are both essential in helping clients get through their family law issues.

My courtroom experience includes numerous motions, several full-blown trials, and I also had the privilege of winning a major family law victory at the Ontario Court of Appeal (McConnell v. Huxtable, 2014 ONCA 86) which prevented the imposition of a proposed two-year deadline on property claims by unmarried spouses. Beyond litigation, I favour out-of-court solutions and collaborative law.

My undergraduate degree is from Trinity College, University of Toronto, in music and philosophy, and my law degree is from Queen’s, where I won several academic prizes. I articled at a small Toronto litigation firm, then opened my own office in 2010 to focus on family law. I believe family law is unique because it involves sensitive issues like separation, divorce, and often children, so it can be stressful. But there is light at the end of the tunnel and I can help you get there.

I grew up in St. Catharines, Ontario, and relocated to Toronto to attend university. In addition to playing music with my band Soul Custody, I enjoy doing amateur stand-up comedy and traveling abroad with my wife. I’m also an award-winning journalist published in The Lawyers Weekly, National Post, and The Globe and Mail. I enjoy working at Russell Alexander Collaborative Family Lawyers because the people are great – you won’t find a better team anywhere!
